What Happens After the Bell Rings?

There are two after-school programs: Berkeley BEARS @ Sylvia Mendez and Berkeley LEARNS @ Sylvia Mendez

Berkeley BEARS @ Sylvia Mendez

Berkeley BEARS programs provide academic support, cultural enrichment, and recreation before the traditional school day starts at 8:10 am, and after it ends. Afterschool support lasts until 6:00 pm during the regular academic year. All BUSD students are eligible to participate in a Berkeley BEARS After School Program. Students can ONLY enroll at the program located at the school they attend. Students and siblings who are currently enrolled in a program receive priority placement for the following year. Additional spaces are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, please see the Berkeley BEARS @ Sylvia Mendez page.

Berkeley LEARNS @ Sylvia Mendez

This Berkeley LEARNS @ Sylvia Mendez program provides academic support, cultural enrichment, and recreation from the end of the school day until 6:00 pm during the regular academic year. In addition to having homework centers and tutoring sessions, the programs offer opportunities for developing literacy and math skills through hands-on activities such as: story-telling, gardening, cooking, performing arts, and writing centers. For more information, please see the Berkeley LEARNS @ Sylvia Mendez page.
